How Sarah Shah’s Turtuk School is transforming India’s northern-most village

Winter had just begun to set in in Ladakh in 2015 when Sarah Shah, a 32-year-old woman came visiting Leh. As is usual for tourists, she got talking to a local taxi driver about the place and its people, unaware that this conversation would pave the way for her to adopt the region as a permanent home. Seven years since, Sarah has made Turtuk her home running a unique school - Turtuk Valley School. With the help of sponsors and volunteers, the school is not just helping the all-round development of students but training teachers too. Set up in 2020, it has already won two national awards for varying achievements. Read on to know Sarah Shah’s story of perseverance and dedication to the cause of quality education.
