India is home to around 2 crore and 68 lakh persons with disabilities, as per the 2011 census. This means around 2.21 per cent of the Indian population has one or another disability. Recently disabled people from across the country came together for a convocation in Bengaluru to celebrate their achievements. Senior disability rights activists say the fellowship, a first-of-its-kind in the country, marks significant progress in disability advocacy and policy reform.
