Fast bowler Umran Malik, who recently bowled the fastest ball of IPL 2022, has now broken his own record in the game against Delhi Capitals (DC).

On Thursday night (May 5), Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) Malik bowled a ball at 156.9 kilometres per hour at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium.

This is the fastest of IPL 2022 so far, and overall the second-fastest in the history of IPL.

Bowling the 20th and last over of the innings, 22-year-old Malik clocked 157 kmph on the fourth ball of the over. It was hit for a four by DC batsman Rovman Powell.

Despite owning the record, it was a forgettable outing for Malik as he went wicketless in his four overs and conceded 52 runs. SRH lost the game by 21 runs.

As promised recently, Malik has delivered. “God willing, if I have to bowl 155 kph, I will do it one day. But at the moment, all I want to do is bowl well,” he had told the host broadcaster Star Sports after SRH’s match against Gujarat Titans on April 28.

In that game, he took 5/25, his maiden five-for in IPL, and also won the Man-of-the-match award.

In the match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday (May 1), Malik had clocked 154 kmph.

The fastest delivery in the history of IPL is 157.71 kmph, bowled by Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait in IPL 2011.

After watching Malik’s record delivery, his mentor and former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan said the young paceman will bowl at 160 kmph. “160 will happen too and he will get better too. #patience #UmranMalik,” he wrote on Twitter.

Last month, in an exclusive interview with The Federal, Pathan had said Malik should not compromise on his pace and urged the selectors to fast-track him into the Indian team.
