Former Pakistan bowler Aaqib Javed on Sunday (June 21) revealed that he was once approached to fix a match, while accusing his team’s ODI player Saleem Pervez of acting as a mediator who lured players to do the same.

According to local media reports, Javed also said that his career in cricket was curtailed due to him rejecting several match fixing offers.

“Lavish cars and millions of rupees were handed over to a cricketer. I was also asked to fix matches and was told that if I did not comply, my career would be finished. Players were approached with match-fixing offers through a former cricketer named Saleem Pervez,” Cricket Pakistan quoted Javed quoted as saying.

“When I came to know about fixing, I took a strong stance and stood by it. I don’t regret the fact that it shortened my career as I strongly believe in my values. People tried to sideline me from tours because of my stance and would also reprimand those people who would talk to me,” he added.

Meanwhile, former Test captain Salim Malik told the International Cricket Council and Pakistan Cricket Board that he was ready to co-operate with them for his clearance from the 2000 match fixing case, which will allow him to earn a living from the game.

Earlier, Malik had said that he was ready to co-operate with the International Cricket Council and Pakistan Cricket Board to get their clearance, which will allow him to earn a living from the game.

In a video message, the player who was banned on the recommendations of the Justice (Retd) Malik Qayyum judicial commission report, also apologised to the nation and his fans for his actions.

Even as Malik’s life ban from the sport was lifted in 2008 by a lower district and sessions court, the PCB did not allow him to play.
