Back from Italy, 7 Indians put under home isolation in Madhya Pradesh

Seven Indians from three different families, who had returned from Italy last month, have been kept in isolation at home in Madhya Pradesh’s Seoni district for their suspected exposure to coronavirus. Officials said the step was takes as a precaution since Italy is the worst-affected country in Europe from the coronavirus.

However, none of them exhibited symptoms of the infection, said officials. They said the step was takes as a precaution since Italy is the worst-affected country in Europe from the coronavirus.

The three families — three couples and a child — were placed under “home isolation” after the administration got information that they had recently returned from Italy, said District Vaccination Officer Dr HP Pateria.

They will have to stay in isolation under medical observation for 14 days, he added.

One of the persons placed under isolation told PTI over phone they were screened at the Mumbai airport upon return, but as none of them showed any symptoms of the virus infection, they were allowed to go. They returned to the city on February 28, he added.

At least 30 persons have tested positive for COVID-19 in India so far, including 16 Italians, as well as three persons from Kerala who were discharged following their recovery.

Leading researcher and scientist Gagandeep Kang has said there is no need for Indians to panic about it yet and that four of five people who have tested positive for the infection will get better on their own.
