The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Sunday (December 27) announced the ICC teams of the decade. Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the skipper of ODI and T20I sides, while Virat Kohli was voted the leader of the Test line-up.

The performance period to pick the teams, and the individual awards, which will be announced tomorrow (December 28), was from January 1, 2011 to October 7, 2020.

Kohli is the only player to feature in all three teams of the decade. In the ODI team, there are three Indians – Dhoni, Rohit Sharma and Kohli, while the T20I line-up has four Indians in Dhoni, Rohit, Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah. The Test side has two Indians in Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin.

Dhoni retired from international cricket on August 15 this year. He is the only captain in cricket history to have won the all three ICC trophies (World T20 in 2007, World Cup in 2011, and Champions Trophy in 2013).

“The ICC Awards of the Decade is a one-off edition of the annual awards programme, aimed at celebrating the stand-out performers and moments from the past 10 years of international cricket,” ICC said.

Kohli is in the running for four awards – ICC male cricketer of the decade, men’s Test cricketer, men’s ODI cricketer and men’s T20I cricketer of the decade.

For the awards, the results of the ICC’s Voting Academy’s selections will amount to a 90% share of the vote, with the fans’ vote counting for 10%, the ICC said.

“The nominees for each of the categories will be determined according to on-field performances, impact on the game and overall achievements for a sustained period of time across the last decade. To be an eligible nominee, a player must have made international appearances in the relevant format for at least 5 years during the performance period,” it added.
