A special Mumbai court granted bail to actor Rhea Chakraborty’s brother Showik, about three months after his arrest on drugs-related charges in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. Rhea Chakraborty, how as also arrested, got bail in October.

Showik had sought bail in the first week of November. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) had arrested him and Sushant Singh’s manager Samuel Miranda on September 4 and charged them under multiple sections of the anti-narcotics law. The NCB questioned the duo on charges of drug abuse on the basis of evidence unearthed during the investigations into the Sushant Singh’s death in June.

Granting bail to Showik, the court gave reference of a recent Supreme Court verdict which said that confessions made before an NCB officer is not admissible evidence in the court of law.

In October, the Bombay High Court had denied bail to Showik, but granted bail to Rhea. The High Court had then said that there is evidence to show that Showik is a part of a chain of drug dealers.

A few days later, the anti-drugs agency arrested Rhea for being “an active member of a drugs syndicate” and financing drugs for use by Sushant Singh.

The NCB’s case rests on the argument that Rhea-Showik bought drugs not for their own use but to supply them to Sushant Singh Rajput, which is “a more serious offense” related to the funding of drugs.

Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his Mumbai home in June. Initially, the Mumbai police launched a probe, but the actor’s father accused Rhea Chakraborty of driving his son to suicide by mentally harassing and taking money from him. The case was finally transferred to the CBI.
