Rajmata would've been proud, gush Scindia's aunts as he joins BJP

If anyone seemed happier than the BJP over Jyotiraditya Scindia’s switch to the party after severing his 18-year-old-long ties with the Congress, it was his aunts and BJP legislators Vasundhara Raje Scindia and Yashodhara Raje Scindia.

Soon after Jyotiraditya was inducted into BJP on Wednesday (March 11), Vasundhara Raje, former Rajasthan chief minister and sister of Scindia’s late father Madhavrao Scindia, took to Twitter to welcome him to the party.

She admired his strength of character and courage for taking the call and said if Rajmata Sahab – her mother and Jyotiraditya’s grandmother Vijaya Raje Scindia – were alive, she would have been proud of his decision.

“If Rajmata Sahab was here today, she would be elated to see you put the #NationFirst. I admire your strength of character and courage. It’s good to be on the same team. Welcome to the BJP,” she tweeted.

Vijaya Raje, popularly known as the Rajmata of Gwalior, was one of the co-founders of BJP’s parent body Bharatiya Jana Sangh and a reputed politician.

Jyotiraditya’s other aunt Yashodhara Raje Scindia, also a former minister called his entry to the party a ghar wapsi (homecoming).

“The queen mother’s blood has taken a step in the interest of the nation. Will walk together, build the nation together. I welcome Jyotiraditya’s bold decision to quit the Congress,” she tweeted on Tuesday, soon after he announced his resignation from the Congress.

After hours of nail-biting suspense over the disappearance of 17 MLAs loyal to Jyotiraditya, the latter on Tuesday announced that he indeed was leaving the Congress. Soon after he sent his resignation to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, 22 of his loyalist MLAs followed suit, sending the Kamal Nath faction into a tizzy.

The BJP now is expected to pitch for a floor test to claim stake to form government in Madhya Pradesh.
