The Congress has accused the BJP of politicising Sushant Singh Rajput death case, turning him from “an Indian actor to a Bihari actor.”
The Bengal Congress leader also took sides with Rhea Chakraborty on Thursday (September 10), as he described Rhea’s arrest over drug charges as “ludicrous” and called her a “Bengalee Brahmin lady” whose father, a retired Army officer, is “entitled to demand justice for his kids”.
Chowdhury, the Congress leader in Lok Sabha, and the newly-appointed West Bengal unit chief, said the BJP is using Sushant’s death to gain benefit before the Bihar election.
“Departed star, Mr SushanthSinghRajput was an Indian actor, BJP turned him into a Bihari actor, only to score electoral brownie points,” Chowdhury tweeted.
“Rhea Chakraborty has been indicted not for abetment of suicide nor murder nor any economic offences, she has been arrested under NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act), ludicrous. To please the Political Masters central agencies have played their roles, after churning the sea they have discovered drugs instead of nectar. Still they are groping in the dark to identify who is the murderer,” Chowdhury said in a tweet.
BJP came in for severe criticism after its Bihar unit released “Justice for Sushant Singh Rajput” posters and banners.
Sushant Singh Rajput’s death may have become an electoral issue in Bihar, but Rhea Chakraborty’s Bengali identity has not caused any flutter in Bengal so far. The Chakraborty family reportedly has roots in Purulia with an ancestral home at Bagmundi in the district.
Trinamool and BJP’s Bengal units have refused to comment on Chowdhury’s “Bengalee Brahmin lady” comment.
Rhea Chakraborty was arrested two days back on charges of organizing drugs for Sushant Singh Rajput, who was found dead in his apartment in Mumbai on June 14. The case is being investigated by the CBI.
About 10 people have been arrested so far over drug-related charges, including Rhea’s brother Showik and Sushant’s employees.
