Vishal Bhardwaj's adaptation of Agatha Christie's novel on SonyLiv gets interactive
OTT viewing has just become more fun and interactive, as the first pilot episode of renowned Bollywood director Vishal Bhardwaj’s detective thriller ‘Charlie Chopra’, streaming on SonyLiv from June 30, invites audiences to participate in giving a title to the series and provide clues to nab the criminal.
The show, which is co-written by Bhardwaj along with Anjum Rajabali and Jyotsna Hariharan, is the official adaptation of Agatha Christie’s novel ‘The Sittaford Mystery’. When SonyLiv dropped the pilot episode on its platform, in the tweet along with the motion poster of the new series, it said, “Don’t miss out on the opportunity to co-create the title of this new SonyLiv original.” It is not clear how this will happen though.
The teaser featured a Ouija board which said, ‘Toofani Raat Mein Ek Qatal. Par Qatil Kaun? Koi Apna, Paraaya ya Unknown?’ – ‘A murder on a stormy night, but who is the murderer? Is it someone we trust, a stranger or an unknown figure?’ The teaser invited viewers to come to the aid of investigator Charlie Chopra to identify clues and dig deeper into each character’s profile and alibi to help solve the mystery.
‘Charlie Chopra’ is about the murder of army veteran brigadier Meherbaan Rawat on a dark snowy night in Manali. This killing sends shockwaves through the tight-knit community of Rockford estate. When Charlie Chopra discovers the strange circumstances in which the murder happened, she is out to solve the mystery.
The series has been produced by Vishal Bhardwaj Pictures in collaboration with Priti Shahani’s Tusk Tale Films and Agatha Christie Limited.
On the queen of mystery novels, Bhardwaj said that he grew up devouring all Agatha Christie mysterious tales. “Her plots, characters and setting remain unparalleled in the genre and continue to excite storytellers even today. It has been an incredible journey collaborating with James Prichard, great-grandson of Agatha Christie, who always brought unique perspectives to our team,” he said.
The new series stars Wamiqa Gabbi, Lara Dutta, Priyanshu Painyuli, Naseeruddin Shah, Neena Gupta, Ratna Pathak Shah, Gulshan Grover, Chandan Roy Sanyal, and Paoli Dam, among others.
