PM Modi: Rajiv Gandhi used INS Viraat to go on holidays

On the numerous streets crossing through the heart of Delhi on a searing Wednesday, it was hard to find a person not talking about Narendra Modi. However, not everyone was aware of the fact that the Prime Minister was slated to address a mega-rally at Ramlila Maidan later in the evening.

His party colleagues have already declared that the rally at Ramlila Maidan will be the final nail in the opposition’s coffin. Slowly as the day progressed, the crowd at Ramlila Maidan started jostling for space with chants of “Modi, Modi, Modi”.

Around 7.35 pm, the PM started speaking and launched a new attack on the Congress.

Modi said the ‘naamdar’ family which went on a holiday on INS Viraat. “When Rajiv Gandhi was India’s prime minister, the naamdar Gandhi family went on a holiday on INS Viraat for 10 days to an island. Even his in-laws and their family members from Italy were present. This is how this family used the armed forces as their fiefdom.”

“Since there was no one on the island, naval officers and Indian government were pressed into service to look after their entertainment,” he added.

The Prime Minister also cornered the Congress over the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and made fun of the grand old party for failing to conduct the Indian Premier League and elections together.

Earlier, he began the rally by saying that the BJP made living in the national capital easy. He attacked the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for being a ‘non-performer’. “The AAP blocked Ayushman Bharat scheme in Delhi… India has witnessed different political cultures — naampanthi, vaampanthi, daam aur daman panthi, vikaspanthi. But Delhi saw a fifth model – naakaampanthi, the one who rejects work related to Delhi’s development. They spread anarchy in Delhi and betrayed the people of India.”
