Shah calls all-party meet on Monday to review Delhi's COVID situation

Home Minister Amit Shah has called a meeting of all political parties of Delhi on Monday (June 15) to review the COVID-19 situation in the capital.Also, in an aid from the Centre to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday (June 14) ordered an immediate transfer of four IAS officers to the Delhi government.


Home Minister Amit Shah has called a meeting of all political parties of Delhi on Monday (June 15) to review the COVID-19 situation in the capital.

Also, in an aid from the Centre to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday (June 14) ordered an immediate transfer of four IAS officers to the Delhi government. The attachment of two other officers from the Centre was also ordered by the minister, to help the national capital in fighting against the coronavirus crisis.

The order was issued within hours after AMit Shah held a high-level meeting with Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) Anil Baijal and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The Home Minister’s office released the details of the IAS officers being transferred to the Delhi government on Twitter.

The COVID-19 tally in Delhi has reached around 39,000 and the infection has claimed more than 1,200 lives so far.

Hindu Rao Hospital declared as COVID-19 facility

Additionally, the Delhi government has declared the Hindu Rao Hospital, run by the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), as a dedicated COVID-19 facility. Hindu Rao is the largest civic hospital in Delhi.

The Delhi Health department said in an order that due to teh high surge of COVID-19 cases in Delhi and the urgent need of augmenting bed capacity, the Hindu Rao Hospital has been designated as a COVID-19 facility. In this regard, the medical superintendent has been directed to make the hospital beds available for admitting patients, as per protocol by June 16.

500 railway isolation coaches, AIIMS panel

After the Supreme Court questioned the Delhi government for its mismanagement of the COVID-19 crisis in the capital, key decision were taken in the high level meeting between the state and the Centre on June 14.

Announcing the decisions and minutes of the meeting on Twitter, Home Minister Amit Shah said that the Centre has decided that 500 railway coaches will be converted into COVID-19 wards in Delhi, in order to fulfill the requirement of 80,000 beds in Delhi.

A committee of senior doctors from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has been decided to be constituted in Delhi, in order to help the smaller hospitals to provide guidance on COVID-19 through telephonic services. The designated helpline number will be released tomorrow (June 15).

Additionally, the COVID-19 testing will increase two-fold in the next two days and will further be raised to three folds in the next six days, for containing the spread of the infection in Delhi. Thrice the number of tests will be held in containment zones of Delhi in the next six days. Door-to-door testing, contact mapping will be conducted in the containment zones.
