Emphasising Putin’s influence on bilateral ties, Modi said the role he played in 2001 is “a fabulous example of how a visionary leader, where he begins from and where he can take the relations to.”

He suggested that the groundwork established then continues to guide the evolution of India-Russia relations today.

Speaking from Singapore, he told ANI that the missile’s impact has been demonstrated repeatedly, most notably in Operation Sindoor, where it struck targets deep inside enemy territory. Travelling at roughly three times the speed of sound, its kinetic force, combined with specialised warheads, gives it significant destructive capability.

Gupta noted that its performance justifies continued joint efforts to develop more advanced variants with different warhead options, potentially benefiting other partner countries as well. He also argued that India’s long history of external invasions and its strategic position along major global trade routes make such defence capabilities essential.

As India’s economic profile grows, he said, vigilance remains important. Gupta added that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s current visit is expected to reinforce cooperation on BrahMos development.
