‘Behuda, besharam’: Mahua continues tirade against ethics panel; committee to meet again on Nov 7

Mahua Moitra slammed ethics panel chairman Vinod Sankar and accused him of asking her “cheap sordid irrelevant questions” when she appeared before the committee on November 2

TMC MP Mahua Moitra, who has been hogging headlines for being an accused in a cash-for-query case, continued her tirade against the Lok Sabha ethics panel and its chairman, Vinod Sankar.

This attack comes hours before the ethics committee has decided to meet on November 7 to consider and adopt its draft report on the cash-for-query allegations levelled against Moitra.

In a new tweet on X on Sunday (November 5), Moitra slammed Sankar and accused of him asking her “cheap sordid irrelevant questions” when she had appeared before the panel on November 2. The ethics panel had summoned her to question her on the allegations made by BJP MP NIshikant Dubey and her ex-friend Jai Anant Dehadrai, for allegedly taking money for posing questions in the Lok Sabha against Adani to target Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Also, in her new tweet, she warned the ethics panel that she had a “verbatim” record of the official transcript of the Ethics Committee meeting held on November 2. And, called out the BJP asking them to “remember” before “pushing out women MPs with fake narrative” that she had the exact transcript of the "cheap, sordid irrelevant question, the Opposition protests, my protest, all in black and white".

Opposition members, who also stormed out of the committee meeting with Moitra, have alleged that the line of questioning by the ethics panel members involved who she met during her hotel visits, about her phone calls at night and other "personal" details, media reports said.

Enquiry over

Meanwhile, the ethics committee meeting for adopting the draft report means the committee headed by BJP MP Vinod Kumar Sonkar has finished its enquiry and will now be making its recommendation, after its members split along party lines in their last get-together on November 2.

BJP members are in a majority in the 15-member committee which is likely to take a grim view of Moitra's conduct, more so after she accused Sonkar of asking filthy and personal questions to her in the last meeting, a charge he denied.

Moitra hits out at BJP

In her latest tweet, Moitra has also accused the BJP of planning criminal cases her. However, she said that she welcomed them but also added that “the CBI and ED need to file FIR against Adani for ₹13,0000 crore coal scam before they question how many pairs of shoes I have”.

Moitra, who has been on many TV shows defending the allegations against her, has admitted to sharing her Lok Sabha MP login and password details with Darshan Hiranandani’s office staff. However, she claimed that they could not post the questions without getting her approval since she got an OTP on her phone. She also denied that she took money for posing the questions in Parliament.

Moitra has however admitted on a leading TV channel that she used to ask Hiranandani, who was her close friend, to get her the odd lipstick and eye-shadow from Dubai Duty Free.

"Shaking in my skin to know BJP is planning criminal cases against me. Welcome them - only know that CBI and ED need to file FIR against Adani for ₹13,0000 crore coal scam before they question how many pairs of shoes I have," she added.

Diversionary tactics

In an earlier tweet, she dismissed the allegations against her as “diversionary tactics” by the BJP and Gautam Adani.

"The real issues that need focus. Sorry BJP, sorry Adani - diversionary tactics won’t help. You can’t bully us into silence till 2024 no matter what you do," she tweeted.

Meanwhile, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, who was the one to lodge the complaint against Moitra with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla saying he had "evidence" given by Dehadrai, took a swipe at her.

Dubey questioned on X how she had accepted businessman Darshan Hiranandani's offer but not Gautam Adani's. He was referring to Moitra's recent allegations that Adani had offered through third parties to make peace with her and urged her to stop asking questions about him before the national elections.

To which Dubey asked pointedly after saying he has become “a fan of Mahua Moitra's honesty”, "She kicked away Adani's offer for Hiranandani?" he asked on X.
