‘Like a miracle’: Nepal house stands firm as raging floodwaters sweep away other buildings

A viral video shows a green-painted house standing amid raging floodwaters as debris and damaged buildings are swept away around it

Amid the widespread destruction of lives and property due to the deadly flash floods in Nepal, a video is doing the rounds on social media showing a remarkable instance of survival, and perhaps some luck as nature went on a rampage.

House withstands raging floodwaters

The video shows a green-painted house surprisingly standing with at least three people on its balcony as swelling flood waters roar past it, either washing away or severely damaging other buildings nearby.

The footage shows pieces of walls of other houses, destroyed by the raging flood waters, vehicles and other such debris floating by the house as the three people on the balcony watch in horror. Surprisingly, the house kept standing even as flood waters gushed through the ground floor, although managing to rip off only doors and windows, apparently without inflicting any severe structural damage.

Viral video sparks concern

The viral video led to netizens expressing concern about the safety and well-being of the occupants of the house. However, another video surfaced later of the same house showing it standing while remaining mostly intact.

A section of netizens expressed surprise about the structural resilience of the house as it was able to withstand the brute force of the floodwater that swept away other nearby structures. The video also allayed concerns over the well-being of the occupants of the house as it showed that they have survived the disaster.

Netizens react to survival

"In such a condition, what must have been going through their minds? Were they bidding goodbye or discussing what to do if someone survives... Someone must interview them," said a user as quoted by NDTV.

"This house standing after such an immense force is an example of the value of strong construction," wrote another user.

"Kudos to whoever built that building," stated another user.

"Thank God that house survived the floods," said a user.
