Mumbai police reveal details of Saif attack in 1,613-page chargesheet
In her statement to the police, Kareena said Saif wanted to search for the attacker, but she insisted that he go to the hospital instead
A 1,613-page chargesheet filed by Mumbai Police sheds light on the events that unfolded on the night of January 16 when actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked by a knife-wielding man at their apartment in the upscale Satguru Sharan building in Bandra.
The accused, later identified as Shariful Islam, a Bangladeshi national, reportedly entered the room of Saif’s younger son, Jehangir (Jeh), around 2 am.
Alerted by screams from Jeh’s nanny Junu Sapkota, Saif and his wife Kareena Kapoor Khan rushed to the room.

Bloody encounter
Kareena, in her statement, recounted being jolted awake by Sapkota, who burst into the room screaming about a knife-wielding man demanding money.
In her statement to the police, Kareena said Saif tried to subdue the attacker but was repeatedly stabbed in the neck, back, and hands. Another caregiver, Geeta, also suffered injuries while trying to intervene.
Amid the chaos, Kareena quickly evacuated her children, escorting Jeh and elder son Taimur to a safer place in their three-floor apartment, while Saif, soaked in blood, joined them moments later.
Despite injuries to his neck, back, and hand, Saif initially tried to track down the intruder, who had already fled the scene.
While Saif still wanted to search for the attacker, Kareena firmly intervened, telling him: “Yeh sab chhod do, neeche chalo, hospital jaate hain” (Leave all this, let’s go down and go to the hospital).
Saif, drenched in blood, rushed to Lilavati Hospital with Taimur and a staff member in an autorickshaw.

Emergency surgery
Saif was admitted and underwent emergency surgery, spending five days in recovery.
Doctors at Lilavati Hospital performed emergency surgery to remove a knife fragment lodged near Saif’s spine.
Islam was arrested on January 19 in Thane, and forensic reports confirmed that knife fragments found in Saif’s body and those at the crime scene matched the weapon recovered from him.
Forensic evidence
The chargesheet reportedly includes statements from multiple witnesses, detailing the terrifying night.
Thanks to Kareena’s timely call to her sister Karisma Kapoor and manager Poonam Damania, the latter’s husband Tejas Damania alerted the police without delay.
Islam now faces charges of attempted murder, trespassing, and armed robbery, and is currently lodged in Arthur Road jail.
The chargesheet also includes forensic proof, including a matching fingerprint of the accused, which was collected from the crime spot during the investigation.
Police confirmed the weapon used was a single knife, now fully recovered in three parts.
Islam apparently confessed to attempting theft and demanding Rs 1 crore.
