Rahul Gandhi will be defeated in Wayanad this time: Kerala BJP chief Surendran

In 2019, Rahul defeated CPI's PP Suneer by 4.31 lakh votes. A BJP ally, Thushar Vellappally of the Bharath Dharma Jana Sena, got 78,816 votes in Wayanad.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will meet “the same outcome as in Amethi” in the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency in Kerala this time, the state BJP chief declared on Monday (March 25).

"Wayanad is a constituency where there is a development crisis. Rahul Gandhi has done nothing for (it). He will meet the same fate in Wayanad as he encountered in Amethi last time," K Surendran said.

Poor NDA show

Rahul was elected to the Lok Sabha by a margin of over four lakh votes in 2019. His main opponents this time will be Communist Party of India leader Annie Raja and the BJP’s Surendran.

The NDA got only 7.25 per cent of the votes in the 2019 battle. But an undeterred Surendran predicted Gandhi’s defeat in Wayanad.

Rahul defeated CPI's PP Suneer by over 4.31 lakh votes. A BJP ally, Thushar Vellappally of the Bharath Dharma Jana Sena, got 78,816 votes in Wayanad.

BJP challenge

"The people of Wayanad will definitely ask why senior leaders of the INDIA alliance are contesting against each other in the constituency," the BJP leader told the media.

Kerala’s ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) had announced Annie Raja's candidature long before the Congress party.

CPI confidence

"We are much ahead in the campaigning. We have reached out to all sections of society. The response of the voters boosts our confidence," she told the media.

Annie Raja is the wife of CPI general secretary D Raja.

Rahul first contested from Wayanad in 2019 when he stood from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh as well. He lost Amethi to the BJP's Smriti Irani.
