Elon Musk-led SpaceX is set to acquire AI coding startup Cursor for $60 billion, marking one of the biggest transactions in the artificial intelligence sector this year.

Founded in 2022 by four Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) alumni, Cursor is an AI-powered code-editing platform that helps developers write, navigate and refactor large codebases. The platform, operated by startup Anysphere, had rapidly emerged as one of the fastest-growing entities in the field, crossing $1 billion in Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) and securing a valuation of $29.3 billion before the SpaceX deal.

The transaction, which is expected to close by the third quarter of 2026, is set to create four new multi-billionaires. Cursor co-founders Michael Truell, Sualeh Asif, Arvid Lunnemark and Aman Sanger are each expected to be worth approximately $2.7 billion following the acquisition.

Who is Aman Sanger?

Among Cursor’s four co-founders, 25-year-old Aman Sanger, the company's COO, stands out for his Indian roots.

Born in New York to Indian immigrant parents, Aman grew up in the United States. His father, Arvind Sanger, is an alumnus of IIT-Bombay. After completing his BTech from IIT Bombay, Arvind pursued an MBA from Tulane University before founding Geosphere Capital in 2007, a global long-short fund manager focused on natural resources, industrial and Indian equities.

Aman's mother Shilpa Sanger is an orthodontist, entrepreneur and angel investor who grew up in Mumbai.

Apart from technology, Aman is also known to be an avid squash player.

How Cursor was born

Aman began coding at the age of 14 and later joined MIT, where he studied Computer Science between 2018 and 2022.

In 2022, he and his pals dropped out of college to build an AI startup called Anysphere. Their first product, an AI design tool, failed to gain significant traction.

The team subsequently pivoted to a problem they personally faced as software developers navigating and managing large codebases. This led to the creation of Cursor, an AI-powered coding assistant designed to help developers write, edit, understand and refactor software more efficiently.

Aman Sanger's net worth

In November 2025, the company raised funding at a valuation of $29.3 billion, helping Aman become one of the world's youngest technology billionaires. According to Forbes, his net worth before the acquisition stood at around $1.3 billion, aided by his estimated 4.5 per cent stake in the company.
