With almost 4k new COVID-19 cases, TN reports highest single-day spike
The state has a total of 35,656 active COVID-19 cases, while 45,537 patients have been discharged after treatment, so far. 1,443 patients were discharged today after being treated from various hospitals across the state.
Tamil Nadu reported 3,940 new COVID-19 cases today (June 28), the highest single-day spike so far, taking the tally to 82,275. A total of 54 COVID-19 patients succumbed to the infection today, with the death toll standing at 1,079, till date.
According to the state health bulletin, out of the 3,940 new cases reported today, 4 were passengers who recently returned to the state from other countries, while, 175 were passengers who had returned from other states of India.

Recently, the state ramped up its COVID-19 testing capacity which resulted in increasing number of new COVID-19 cases being reported on a daily basis. Today, a total of 32,948 samples were tested.
State capital Chennai reported a total of 1,992 COVID-19 cases today, followed by 183 cases in Chengalpattu, 284 in Madurai, 99 in Thiruvallur, 114 in Thiruvannamalai, 124 in Kallakurichi.
Districts such as Karur, Krishnagiri, Perambalur, Namakkal were among those which recorded the least number of cases, being just zero, or one, two each.

Till June 28, Chennai has recorded a total of 53,762 COVID-19 cases, followed by districts such as Chengalpattu with 5,051 cases, Thiruvannamalai with 1,761 cases, Thiruvallur with 3,524 cases, Madurai with 1,995 cases, Kancheepuram with 1,791 cases.
Meanwhile, a total number of 46 patients have died due to comorbidities in the state. Tamil Nadu has a total of 90 operational COVID-19 testing facilities, out of which, 47 are government centres, and 43 are private facilities.
