The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) passed a resolution on Friday (May 5), rejecting Sharad Pawar’s resignation as party chief and requesting him to continue leading the party that he founded. The decision was made after a core committee meeting this morning to decide on the new national president of the NCP following Pawar’s decision to step down from the post.
Several top leaders of the party, including Ajit Pawar and Supriya Sule, attended the meeting held at the party office in Mumbai. The 18-member committee that met today comprised of prominent leaders of the party, including Praful Patel, Sunil Tatkare, Chhagan Bhujbal, and others. The meeting was expected to decide the future of Maharashtra politics and the NCP.

NCP workers were seen raising slogans in support of Sharad Pawar, urging him to reconsider his decision to step down. On Tuesday, Pawar had announced his resignation from the party president’s post, which was met with emotional protests from party workers and leaders. His nephew Ajit Pawar supported the former’s decision, saying that the next party chief will work under Sharad Pawar.
NCP state president Jayant Patil conveyed the message of party leaders and workers that people from across Maharashtra and other places are requesting Sharad Pawar to take back his decision. Patil added that many people have joined NCP because Pawar is the head of the party and that they have explained all this to him. Several office bearers in the state also said they would quit their posts and requested Pawar to reconsider his decision.
