38 more patients succumbed to the infection today, taking the death toll to 7044, according to the state health bulletin. The state tally of confirmed COVID-19 positive cases now stands at 56, 845.

The single highest-day spike of COVID-19 cases in the state, is a result of the high testing conducted in one day.
Out of the 2,396 COVID-19 cases confirmed today, 15 patients were passengers who returned from other countries, while 49 patients were passengers who returned to the state from other states of India.

The state tested 33,231 samples today, taking the total number of samples tested till date, to 8,61,211.
State capital Chennai reported 1,256 COVID-19 cases today, followed by Chengalpattu with 180 cases, Thiruvallur with 131 cases, Thiruvannamalai with 135 cases.
Tamil Nadu has a total of 85 functioning COVID-19 testing centres, out of which, 45 are government and 40 are private entities.
