Kerala witnesses 195 new COVID cases, highest on a single day
Kerala witnessed the highest single-day spike in COVID-19 cases with 195 new infections on Saturday (June 27), increasing the total number of confirmed cases in the state to 4,072. A total of 2,108 people have been cured or discharged from hospitals, 1,939 patients are undergoing treatment in Kerala.
Malappuram district saw the maximum number of 47 cases, while 25 new cases were reported in Palakkad district, 22 in Thrissur, 15 in Kottayam, 14 in Ernakulam, 13 in Alappuzha, 12 in Kollam, 11 each in Kannur and Kasargod, eight in Kozhikode, six in Pathanamthitta, five in Wayanad, four in Thiruvananthapuram and two in Idukki.
While the fresh cases comprised 118 returnees from other countries and 62 from other states, 15 were infected due to local transmission. As many as 102 patients under treatment for the disease recovered on Saturday, which is also the highest number on a single day, State Minister of Health KK Shailaja said.

Also, a total of 1,67,978 people have been placed in quarantine across the state. Of these, 1,65,515 are under home or institutional quarantine and 2,463 are in hospitals. As many as 281 people were admitted to various hospital on Saturday.
The state also saw a spike in the number of tests. So far, 2,15,243 samples had been sent for testing, of which 6,166 were tested in the last 24 hours. A total of 44,129 samples were collected from priority groups such as health workers, migrant labourers and those with high public exposure and 42,411 samples were negative, a bulletin said.
