Akhilesh dissolves SP national, state and district bodies; revamp on cards

Update: 2022-07-03 11:52 GMT

In a tweet, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav announced on Sunday that the national, state and district executive bodies of the party have been dissolved with an immediate effect. The party’s Uttar Pradesh president Naresh Uttam will however continue to hold his chair.

A post on the party’s Twitter handle read: “National president, state president, district president, all youth organizations of the party, women wings and all other cells have been dissolved.”

Though no official reason has been provided for the sudden dissolution, the move is seen as an attempt to revamp the party after it faced a defeat in the Lok Sabha by-polls for the Rampur and Azamgarh constituencies.

In Azamgarh, BJP’s Dinesh Lal Yadav ‘Nirahua’ defeated the SP candidate Dharmendra Yadav by 8,679 votes. As per reports, the BJP candidate bagged 3,12768 votes while the SP candidate gained 3,04,089 votes. The Lok Sabha seat was earlier represented by Akhilesh Yadav who had resigned from the post.

In Rampur, the SP candidate backed up by Azam Khan was also defeated by BJP by a margin of 42,192 votes.

As per reports, after losing seats in both constituencies, Akhilesh Yadav had taken a dig against BJP by calling the party’s victory a victory of dishonesty, deceit and a disregard for democracy and the constitution. The SP leader said: “Democracy is bleeding.”

As per reports, a senior party leader of SP informed that “The party is gearing up for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the focus is to strengthen the organisation to take on the BJP with full force.”
