AAP will contest UP Assembly elections in 2022, says Kejriwal

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will contest the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections in 2022, the party’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal announced on Monday (December 15).

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will contest the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections in 2022, the party’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal announced on Tuesday (December 15).

“In the last eight years, the AAP has formed government thrice in Delhi. It has emerged as the main opposition party in Punjab. But today, I want to make an important announcement… the party will contest the state elections in Uttar Pradesh in 2022,” Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal said during a virtual media briefing.

“Many have asked, there are already so many parties in Uttar Pradesh, what will Aam Aadmi Party bright to the state? There is only thing missing in UP politics – fair and clean politics. It can only be given by the Aam Aadmi Party,” Kejriwal said in a video posted on the party’s official Twitter handle.

Kejriwal’s announcement comes a day after the AAP opened its account in Goa Zilla Panchayat elections. The party’s Hanzel Fernandes won Benaulim seat in South Goa.

“Congratulations to AAP’s Hanzel Fernandes on winning the Benaulim ZP seat in Goa. Many other AAP candidates have secured much higher vote share than last time. This is just the beginning. I am sure AAP will live up to the trust and expectations of Goans,” Kejriwal tweeted on Monday (December 14).

The AAP is also expected to field candidates in other states where it has a presence. earlier, in 2016, it had fielded candidates in the Kerala Assembly elections.
