Omar Abdullah, National Conference Vice-President took to twitter on Sunday to claim that he and his family, including his father and Member of Parliament, Farooq Abdullah, have been locked up in their homes by the authorities with no explanation. The former chief minister also mocked the Central government’s “new model of democracy” and said ‘this is the ‘naya/new J&K after Aug 2019’.
Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and vice president of National Conference Omar Abdullah took to twitter on Sunday (February 14) to claim that he and his family, including his father and MP Farooq Abdullah, have been locked up in their homes by the authorities with no explanation. Abdullah also mocked the central government’s “new model of democracy” and said ‘this is the “naya/new J&K after Aug 2019”.
The Srinagar police, meanwhile responded to his tweets, claiming that the “movement of VIPs/ Protected Persons has been discouraged”, because February 14 is the second anniversary of the dreaded 2019 Pulwama attack. They also added that they had informed in advance that no tour should be planned today.
Abdullah wrote on Twitter, “This is the ‘naya/new J&K’ after Aug 2019. We get locked up in our homes with no explanation. It’s bad enough they’ve locked my father (a sitting MP) & me in our home, they’ve locked my sister & her kids in their home as well.” He also posted posted photographs of police vehicles outside the gates of his residence.
He followed it up with another tweet to take a jibe at the government: “Chalo, your new model of democracy means that we are kept in our homes without explanation but on top of that the staff that works in the house aren’t being allowed in and then you are surprised that I’m still angry & bitter.”

Meanwhile, the CRPF paid floral tributes to the 40 personnel, who were killed in the Pulwama terror attack. Two years ago, Pakistan based terrorist group, Jaish-e-Mohammed attacked a CRPF convoy in Lethpora in Phulwama and killed 40 CRPF personnel.
On Saturday, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti too complained on Twitter that she had been placed under house arrest ahead of her visit to the family of Athar Mushtaq — one of the three alleged militants allegedly killed in a fake encounter in Parimpora locality in December last year.
She tweeted, “His father was booked under UAPA for demanding his dead body. This the normalcy GOI wants to showcase to the EU delegation visiting Kashmir (sic).” Teenager Athar Mushtaq, who lived in Phulwama, was killed along with two others, in an encounter with security forces on December 30 at Lawaypora Srinagar. While security forces said that the trio was affiliated with militants and were given a chance to surrender, their families said they were innocent.
Mufti was scathingly referring to a visit to J&K by a group of EU parliamentarians in November 2019, “to see for themselves” the situation on the ground, after the allegedly harsh restrictions imposed by the Central government in J&K, following the abrogation of Article 370.
