The Delhi government has allowed the opening of barbershops and salons as the country entered unlock 1.0 on Monday (June 1) after four phases of nationwide lockdown due to COVID-19. However, malls, restaurants, spas and religious establishments, which have been allowed by the Centre to operate, will remain closed in the Union Territory.

Addressing the media on Twitter, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the national capital had been following the odd-even rule for the opening of shops in markets. But the Centre has not mentioned any such rule in its new guidelines and so, all shops are allowed to open now, Kejriwal said.

Similarly, the government had imposed restrictions on the number of passengers travelling in autos and e-rickshaws. But all those restrictions have been lifted, Kejriwal said. People can also ride pillion on two-wheelers and buses can run with up to 20 passengers. Home delivery and takeaways of food items have also been allowed.

While all offices can resume operations, the government has encouraged private companies to continue ‘work from home’. Construction activities can also resume un the Union Territory.

Earlier, the Chief Minister announced that the borders with Uttar Pradesh and Haryana would be sealed for a week and a decision on reopening these would be taken by June 5, after consultation with the public. However, people carrying passes and engaged in essential services are exempted, he said.

People can send their suggestions on WhatsApp to 8800007722 or call 1031 or write a mail to delhicm.suggestions@gmail.com by 5 pm on June 5, Kejriwal added.
