Delhi’s Karkardooma Court on Friday (March 6) sent suspended AAP councillor Tahir Hussain to seven-day police custody in connection with the alleged murder of Intelligence Bureau (IB) employee Ankit Sharma during last week’s communal violence in northeast Delhi.

Duty Magistrate Rakesh Kumar passed the order after he was produced before him by Delhi Police which said that his custodial interrogation was required to unearth larger conspiracy, Tahir’s advocate Mukesh Kalia said.

Tahir was arrested on Thursday after a court here dismissed his plea seeking to surrender before it in connection with the case.

Ankit Sharma, a security assistant at IB, had gone missing on February 25 and his body was found in a drain near his house the next day. His family had accused Hussain of instigating the mob that had allegedly killed Sharma.

BJP leader Kapil Mishra too had made similar allegations and said Hussain was seen in a video on the terrace of his house along with masked men who were carrying sticks. Hussain was constantly talking to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over phone, Mishra had alleged.

However, Hussain had claimed innocence and said he had shifted to a “safe place” in presence of police on February 24, a day before Sharma went missing.
