Delhi air quality sees minor improvement, but still remains poor

The air quality in Delhi on Wednesday (October 23) has seen a slight improvement but continued to remain in the poor category.

According to the Air Quality Index (AQI) of the Central Pollution Control Board, the reason could be, easterlies that might have reduced the impact of the northwesterlies which have been bringing the biomass from stubble burning in the states of Haryana and Punjab to Delhi.

According to ANI, the major pollutants PM 2.5 was recorded at 154 in ‘moderate’ category and PM 10 was recorded at 192 in ‘moderate’ category, in Lodhi Road area. In the region-wise data, Chandni Chowk witnessed was the worst hit. IIT Delhi and Gurugram were other regions with AQI level beyond 250.

According to System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), the AQI is likely to deteriorate slowly today and tomorrow but in the higher end of poor to very poor category.

An AQI between 0 and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 and 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 and 200 ‘moderate’, 201 and 300 ‘poor’, 301 and 400 ‘very poor’, and 401 and 500 ‘severe’.
