Skipper Kohli's record-breaking feat puts India in dominating position over SA

Indian captain Virat Kohli is on a record-breaking spree as he surpasses Australian legend Don Bradman’s most scores of 150 and above as the skipper on day 2 of the second Test against South Africa in Pune on Friday (October 11).

The Indian skipper now has 9 scores of 150+ which is one more than Bradman’s tally.

Kohli with his 7th double ton shattered the record for most Test double hundreds by an Indian, overtaking Virendra Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar. Kohli has also reached 7,000 runs in Test cricket.

Kohli also emulated former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting by equalling his record 19 hundreds as a Test captain.

With an overall career tally of 26 hundreds, Kohli is now on par with Ponting, while former South African captain Graeme Smith leads the list with 27 tons to his credit.

Australia’s Michael Clarke, Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardene, West Indies’ Brian Lara and South Africa’s Graeme Smith are joint third, having achieved 150 plus scores as captain seven times.

Earlier Friday, Kohli also scored most Test runs as an Indian skipper, surpassing Sunil Gavaskar who recorded 2426 runs.

Along with Stephen Fleming, Alastair Cook and Steve Waugh, Kohli became only the fourth ever captain to score a century in what is his 50th game as Test captain.

Kohli has also achieved 54.34 batting average beating Sachin Tendulkar’s test career average of 53.78 by an inch.
