Ekta Kapoor’s web series ‘Triple X’ sparked a row over a controversial episode which allegedly degraded the dignity of the Army uniform and their families.

RSS affiliate ‘Sanskar Bharti’ has criticised web shows for a derogatory portrayal of Indian Army personnel and their families, and has urged the government to bring in stringent laws to curb such content online, which criminalise ‘Hindu dharma and values’.

The organisation, Sanskar Bharti, has also taken strong notice to ‘scenes of openly hateful violence, sexuality and nudity, and dialogues’ in web series. This criticism comes days after Ekta Kapoor’s web series ‘Triple X’ on Alt Balaji, sparked a big row over a controversial episode which allegedly degraded the dignity of the Army uniform and their families.

An FIR had been registered against Ekta Kapoor and two others on charges of obscenity, hurting religious feelings, as well as improper use of national emblems in the second season of their show Triple X. A controversial sex scene was put in question by the organisation.

Sanskar Bharti’s all-India executive body, the Akhil Bharatiya Prabandh Karini (ABPK),
had passed a resolution on June 7, stating that under the ‘guise of freedom of expression’ such web shows are being played.

It stated that in the last few years, web series have emerged as a popular means of entertainment. After the closing of cinema halls during the COVID-19 lockdown, the demand for web series has increased tremendously. However, these online series are based mostly on criminal subjects and are becoming popular among youth and women.

It added that in view of the growing trade and in the name of realistic artistry, such web series often feature scenes of openly hateful violence, sexuality, and nudity. It further said the Indian Army has been portrayed in bad light in some of these web shows. Along with these, scenes tarnishing the Hindu Dharma and criminalising Hindu values are shown in plenty in web shows.

ABPK stated that it appreciates shows which provide clean entertainment, and has urged producers and directors to work on series which show the uniqueness of the Bharatiya culture and society. The organisation said that it condemns the chaotic freedom, flourishing under the guise of freedom of expression. It expects art, literature, culture and the followers of Bharat and Bharatiyata to boycott such ‘free and vulgar works’
