Bright young actor gone too soon: PM condoles death of Sushant Singh Rajput

Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput committed suicide at his home in Mumbai on Sunday (June 14). The actor was 34.

Initial reports said he was found hanging at his Bandra residence.

“He has committed suicide at his residence in Bandra. Our team is there,” confirmed Manoj Sharma, additional commissioner of police, Western Region, Mumbai told PTI.

No suicide note has been recovered from Rajput’s residence, as per the police. Further investigation is underway.

Sushant hailing from Bihar started his acting career through Ekta Kapoor’s television serial Pavitra Rishta and then moved on to Bollywood.

He has acted in hit Bollywood films like Kai Po Chhe – his debut film, Shuddh Desi Romance, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Raabta, Kedarnath and his last film was Chhichhore that released in 2019.

He also starred in Sonchiriya – a critically acclaimed dacoit movie set in the backdrop of Chambal, alongside Bhumi Pednekar, Manoj Bajpayee.

On June 9, his manager Disha Salian too committed suicide by jumping off her 14th-floor apartment in Mumbai’s Malad. According to the police, no suicide note had been recovered at the site and investigations are on.

Several Bollywood celebrities expressed their shock and grief over Rajput’s demise. Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a tweet while condoling the actor’s death said he was an inspiration to many and leaves behind many memorable performances.
