After AIIMS, CBI finds no traces of homicide in Sushant’s death

The AIIMS report which has ruled out the murder angle from actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death matches CBI’s own conclusion of the case after reconstructing the incident, Indian Express reported on Wednesday (October 7).

Even though the CBI is yet to come out with its report, IE quoting officials privy to the investigation, said the investigators after recreating the crime scene found no evidence of forced entry, signs of struggle on the body neither the initial forensic reports showed poisoning or sedation of the actor.

The CBI which took over the case in August following an order of the Supreme Court had visited Sushant’s residence in Mumbai where he was found dead. The team had reportedly recreated the death scene with a life-size dummy.

“The crime scene recreation fit with the idea of a suicide. There was no evidence of forced entry, no signs of struggle (during a scuffle) on the body and initial forensic reports did not suggest poisoning or sedation. The circumstances pointed towards a suicide. But to be doubly sure, the matter was referred to a panel of doctors from AIIMS, which has now come to the same conclusion,” an official privy to the probe said.

The investigating agency had referred the case to a panel of doctors from AIIMS to be doubly sure and their report stating that it was a suicide not murder, has confirmed the CBI’s conclusion.

The AIIMS which submitted its report to the CBI last week termed it “a case of hanging and death by suicide” after studying the actor’s post-mortem and viscera reports.

“There were no injuries over the body other than hanging. There were no marks of struggle/scuffle in the body and clothes of the deceased,” Dr Sudhir Gupta who led the team had told news agency ANI.

With suicide out of the way, the agency will now focus on reasons that could have triggered the actor to commit suicide, any role of his girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty in his death, professional rivalry and nepotism, as well as effect of drug abuse and the mental health of the actor, IE said.

Sources also told IE that the forensic audit of Sushant’s bank accounts have not shown any suspicious activities to suggest that Rhea could have driven him to suicide for financial gain.

Only ₹55 lakh out of a transaction of almost ₹70 crore through Sushant’s bank accounts in the past five years, were associated with Rhea, most of them being expenses on travel, spas and presents.

“Chakraborty continues to be under scanner for abetment to suicide. But it is true CBI hasn’t yet found any motive for abetment. There was a forensic audit done of Rajput’s account. There is nothing concrete in the audit report to suggest that Chakraborty siphoned off funds and this led to the actor’s suicide. The expenses incurred by Rajput on her are comparatively small and can easily be explained as expenses on a friend. However, there are many angles to the suicide and our investigation is still on,” the source in CBI said.

Sushant’s father in his FIR filed with Bihar police had alleged that ₹15 crore has been siphoned off Sushant’s bank account and had blamed Rhea for the same as well as for abetting his son’s suicide.

The CBI so far has questioned over a dozen people in the case including Rhea and her family and Sushant’s staff and house manager; staff of banks where he had accounts and his psychiatrist.

The agency has also reportedly probed the suicide of Sushant’s former manager Disha Salian, but found no evidence of any connection between their deaths. Salian’s deaths was linked to Sushant as the actor had googled the incident before his death.

Sushant was found hanging at his Bandra residence on June 14. While the Mumbai police based on autopsy report had termed the death as suicide, conspiracy theories based on social media posts and allegations of colleagues and a section of media that it was a murder, had put pressure on the government for a detailed probe into the actor’s death.
