122 houses, 322 shops gutted in Delhi riots: Interim report

As many as 122 houses, 322 shops and 301 vehicles were gutted in the riots which raged through northeast Delhi for more than three days, leaving 47 dead and 350 injured, Hindustan Times reported quoting an interim report filed by north-east Delhi district administration.

Senior department officials, however, said that the numbers may go up once the final report is submitted, as the survey conducted by 18 teams led by sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs) since Saturday is still underway. The final report is likely to be prepared by the end of this week.

HT said that the interim report was prepared taking into account inputs shared by these teams till Sunday (March 1) morning. The teams were instructed by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to assess the damage due to the riots by conducting survey in the riot-hit localities of northeast Delhi.

According to the report, each team headed by a SDM consists of at least 60 participants including revenue department officials and civil volunteers who are helping both with the survey and relief work. The department has, however, not revealed the name of the localities that have been covered so far.

A senior government said the teams apart from making a mention of destroyed properties in their report after the survey, have also physically verified the compensation claim applications made by the owners of those properties.

In the report, the localities have been split into four zones – three under northeast Delhi revenue district and one under Shahdara revenue district, the HT report said.

The report also recorded 44 cases of minor or partial damage to households.
