South Delhi Superstarz captain Ayush Badoni smashed a record 19 sixes in his incredible knock of 55-ball 165 against North Delhi Strikers in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) T20 tournament at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday (August 31).

With 19 sixes, Badoni has broken Chris Gayle’s joint record of 18 sixes in an innings in T20 cricket. Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan had also hit 18 sixes in a T20 innings.

Gayle hit 18 sixes along with five fours in his 69-ball 146 for Rangpur Riders against Dhaka Dynamites in the 2017 edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

The Indian-origin player Chauhan had smacked 18 sixes during his 41-ball 144 for Estonia against Cyprus in a T20 International in June this year.

Badoni, who plays for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), blazed his way into the record books. Batting at No. 3, he scored his runs at a strike rate of 300.

Thanks to Badoni’s 165 (55 balls, 8x4, 19x6) and opener Priyansh Arya’s 120 off 50 balls with 10 fours and 10 sixes, Delhi Superstarz posted a record 308/5 in 20 overs.

Arya did a Yuvraj Singh by hitting six sixes in an over.

Badoni and Arya also broke the record of highest partnership for any wicket in T20s with their 286-run stand for the second wicket. The duo in the process went past Japan opening pair of Lachlan Yamamoto-Lake and Kendel Kadowaki-Fleming, who had put on 258 for the opening wicket against China in February this year.

In reply to South Delhi's mammoth score, North Delhi Strikers Pranshu Vijayran fought a lone battle to score 62 from 32 balls, including eight fours and four sixes but his side was set an improbable target to achieve.

Raghav Singh emerged as the pick of the bowlers for South Delhi Superstarz as he picked 3/34 from his three overs.

Brief scores: South Delhi Superstarz 308/5 in 20 overs (Priyansh Arya 120, Ayush Badoni 165; Siddhartha Solanki 3/52) beat North Delhi Strikers 196/8 in 20 overs (Pranshu Vijayran 62; Raghav Singh 3/34) by 112 runs.
