COVID-19: Kerala records another single-day spike with 62 new cases
Kerala has recorded another single-day spike today (May 23) with 62 new COVID-19 cases. Out of these cases, 31 people came from other states, while 18 came from abroad. As of now, 275 patients are undergoing treatment for COVID-19 in the state.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has confirmed that on May 22, the state recorded 42 new cases. According to the CM, as of May 22, the total number of confirmed cases in Kerala stands at 732. These include 216 active cases. 512 people have recovered in the state, while four succumbed to the infection.

The state has been reporting a surge in new COVID-19 positive cases soon after the interstate and international traffic resumed since May 7. Before this, the state had completely flattened the curve with only 16 active cases. Along with the new cases, the state reported nine more containment zones, with a total of 37 hotspots.

Kerala CM earlier said that the state has recorded the highest recovery rate and the lowest mortality rate. The early preparedness, robust public health system, and the keenness to follow guidelines are the key factors for effectively resisting the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic.
