Jharkhand polls: JMM, Congress to contest 70 of 81 seats

Chief minister Hemant Soren said seat-sharing talks were on with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) as well as the Communist parties for the coming electoral battle

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and the Congress will contest 70 of 81 Assembly seats in the state, leaving 11 to the RJD and the Left, chief minister Hemant Soren announced on Saturday (October 19).

He said seat-sharing talks were on with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) as well as the Communist parties.

The Jharkhand Assembly elections will be held on November 13 and 20. The votes will be counted on November 23.

"INDIA bloc will contest the Jharkhand polls together. It has been decided that the Congress and the JMM will field candidates in 70 of 81 seats," Soren said in Ranchi.

The main Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also announced an alliance with its allies in Jharkhand.
