R-Day parade: Veterans tableau depicts how they gallantly defended country
The role played by armed forces' veterans during and after their service was depicted in a tableau that rolled down the Kartavya Path during the 75th Republic Day parade on Friday.
The theme of the float was -- "Rashtra Nirman - Pehle Bhi, Ab Bhi, Aage bhi aur Hamesha".
The front part of the tableau depicts a major phase in the lives of armed forces personnel, when they "gallantly defended our country at all costs", read a description about the tableau in an official booklet on the 75th Republic Day celebrations at the Kartavya Path here.
These capable forces along with availability of modern indigenous war fighting platforms clearly reflect that the security of the country is impenetrable, it read.
The central part of the tableau showcases the role of armed forces personnel after their retirement from active service. The veterans have made valuable contributions in myriad aspects of nation building and they act as pillars of the country's growth in various sectors, read the description about the float in the booklet .
The tableau also depicts the supreme sacrifice made by armed forces personnel. "Our country and all its citizens salute the indomitable spirit of our soldiers and get motivated to share the responsibility of the national security," it read.

Republic Day parade showcases all-women contingent of Armed Forces Medical Services
The Armed Forces Medical Services on Friday showcased an all-women contingent for the first time in the Republic Day parade here.
The tableau represented the pinnacle of military pageantry, highlighting the strength, discipline and resolute dedication of women officers of the Armed Forces Medical Services.
It also depicted their hard work, devotion and unwavering commitment extending far beyond the borders, encompassing patient care, logistics, casualty evacuation and public health initiatives in conflict zones in India as well as abroad.
Led by Major Srishti Khullar, the contingent comprised Captain Amba Samant from the Army Dental Corps, Surgeon Lieutenant Kanchana from the Indian Navy and Flight Lieutenant Dhivya Priya from the Indian Air Force, serving as the squadron officers.
The procession was followed by 144 officers from the Military Nursing Service.
Operation Dost conducted in February 2023 in Turkiye's Iskenderun was a prominent overseas relief operation for earthquake victims by the Indian Army's medical officers and staff.

Major Divya Tyagi leads all-men Bombay Sappers contingent
New Delhi, Jan 26 (PTI) Major Divya Tyagi made history on Friday by becoming the first woman officer of the Indian Army to lead an all-men contingent of the Bombay Sappers, Bombay Engineer Group and Centre, at the Republic Day parade here.
Tyagi is an officer of the 115th Engineer Regiment.
"The Bombay Sappers traces its ancestry back to 1777 when the Pioneer Lascars were raised under the Bombay Presidency. However, the date of raising of the group is taken as 1820, when the Engineer Lascars were raised and formed into a company designated as 'Sappers and Miners' under the Bombay Army," an information brochure released by the government on the eve of Republic Day said.
It added that "the gallant Bombay Sappers have been honoured with 34 Battle Honours and 25 Theatre Honours prior to independence, and three Battle Honours and six Theatre Honours post-independence, apart from 10 COAS Unit Citations, two COAS Certificate of Appreciation, and one GOC-in-C Certificate of Appreciation in these 204 years".
According to the government, the Bombay Sappers has the privilege of being the proud recipients of the highest gallantry awards, both pre and post independence, vis-a-vis the Victoria Cross, the Medaille Militaire, the Param Vir Chakra and the Ashok Chakra.
"The Bombay Sappers joined the club of a select few when they received Colours from R Venkatarman, the then president of India, on February 21, 1990," it said.
The brochure stated that the Bombay Sappers has built canals, roads and railways, operated mints and lighthouses and even constructed prestigious buildings.
