Modi intent on sabotaging people's mandate: Congress

The Congress on Wednesday said the Lok Sabha results are a "big mandate against" Prime Minister Narendra Modi and alleged that he is intent on "sabotaging" the people's mandate.

"The caretaker Prime Minister is thumping his shrunken chest and boasting that not since 1962 has a Govt been re-elected thrice consecutively. History that even the Master Distortian cannot rewrite is that Nehru was elected PM in 1952 with 364 seats, in 1957 with 371 seats and in 1962 with 361 seats. Mr. Narendra Modi has got 240 seats in 2024. It is a big mandate AGAINST him. But he is intent on sabotaging this mandate," Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh posted on Big mandate against him: Cong hits out at Modi

'Drama': Congress on Fadnavis' offer to resign

The Congress on Wednesday said Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis' offer to resign following the setback suffered by the BJP in the state in the Lok Sabha elections was only "drama".

Fadnavis is running an "unconstitutional government" and had publicly stated that he returned to power by breaking up two parties, said state Congress spokesperson Atul Londhe.

"His wish to resign is just drama. You (Fadnavis) used official machinery to give the breakaway factions of Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party the (original) party symbol and name. But the people have now expressed their opinion about who these two parties belong to. Will (Prime Minister) Modi resign?" he asked in a statement.

NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) spokesperson Mahesh Tapase claimed that Fadnavis had proposed to resign because he intended to make Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and deputy CM Ajit Pawar quit.

JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy eyes agriculture portfolio in new NDA govt

JD(S) leader and former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy on Wednesday hinted that his party was interested in the Agriculture portfolio in the new NDA Government.

Asked about JD(S)' "demands" ahead of government formation, he said: "we don't have any such demand. Our priority is resolution of issues concerning Karnataka that have been there for long from the Centre. About giving representation (Cabinet berth) to Karnataka at the Centre, Narendra Modi will decide." On his ministerial aspirations, Kumaraswamy said the NDA leadership will decide. "Let's speak about it when the time comes. Delhi leaders know what is the appropriate decision that needs to be taken for the situation there (in Karnataka). They will decide," he said.

He, however, acknowledged that his party's interest is in the Agriculture department. "Let's see what decisions will happen. Our party's interest is in the Agriculture department. Our fight since the beginning has been towards doing good for the farming community," Kumaraswamy told reporters in Delhi.
