Lok Sabha poll code violations: EC resolves almost 79,000 complaints
More than 58,500 complaints were against illegal hoardings and banners; another 1,400 complaints were regarding money, gifts and liquor distribution
The Election Commission (EC) has resolved almost 79,000 complaints regarding poll code violations since the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections on March 16.
The poll panel said its C-Vigil mobile application was being used by people to flag the violations.
It said more than 79,000 complaints have been received thus far, and over 99 per cent of them had been resolved. Some 89 per cent of these were resolved within 100 minutes.
Illegal hoardings
More than 58,500 complaints were against illegal hoardings and banners, the Election Commission said. Another 1,400 complaints were regarding distribution of money, gifts and liquor.
Close to three per cent of the complaints were related to defacement of property.
Of the 535 complaints regarding display of firearms and intimidation, 529 were resolved.
There were also complaints about the use of speakers beyond the permitted time.
Voting in the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections will take place between April 19 and June 1.
