Wind killed Subhashree, file FIR against it, says AIADMK leader C Ponnaiyan

AIADMK senior leader and one of the founding member of the party C Ponnaiyan said that the wind should have been booked instead of AIADMK former Councillor C Jayagopal who erected illegal flex banners killing 23-year-old techie in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

Days after Subhashree was crushed to death by a lorry after being knocked down by an illegal flex banner, C Ponnaiyan, speaking to a Tamil news channel, blamed the wind for the fatal accident. “If a case had to be registered, it should be filed against the wind,” he said.

He went on to say that it was not the AIADMK former councillor Jayagopal’s fault and it was not him who went to the spot and fixed the flex banners in a such a way to make it fall on the girl.

It is not the first time that an AIADMK functionary has said such an insensible comment. Earlier too, AIADMK minister D Jayakumar asked the citizens to ensure road safety. In a video, he asked the people travelling by two-wheelers to wear a helmet and people travelling by cars to wear seatbelt to avoid accidents.

“We will lose a life because of our carelessness which could have been avoided. We can save our lives, if we wear helmets and seat belts, it is our responsibility,” he said.

However, the police, who investigated the accident of the Subhashree confirmed that Subhashree was wearing a helmet during the time of accident where she slipped off her vehicle and sustained head injuries.

Meanwhile, most of the political party leaders including MK Stalin have visited Subhashree’s house and met her parents to offer condolence. However, none of the AIADMK functionaries released any statement consoling the family members and asking the party cadres to refrain from putting up illegal flex banners.
