TN witnesses highest single-day spike in COVID-19 cases
With 1,989 new COVID-19 cases reported on Saturday (June 13), the total number of confirmed cases in Tamil Nadu increased to 42,687. The state also witnessed 30 deaths and the toll has risen to 397.
The state has 18,878 active cases, while 23,409 people have been cured or discharged from hospitals. Chennai reported 1,484 cases on June 13 and the total cases in the city has risen to 30,444. While it has 14,180 active cases, 15,947 have been discharged. The city’s death toll stands at 316.

Out of 1,989 new cases, 33 had returned from other states or countries. While 12 people had come from Maharashtra, two arrived from Kerala and one each from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Bangladesh.
So far, the state has tested 6,91,817 samples, out of which 17,911 were sent for testing to various labs on June 13. Tamil Nadu currently has 79 COVID-19 testing facilities—45 are run by the government and 34 are private laboratories.
