TN relaxes timings to buy essentials in three major cities on April 30

As the four-day complete lockdown in Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai ends at 9 pm on Wednesday (April 29), the Tamil Nadu government has relaxed the timings to buy essential items on April 30.

In view of the May Day, the state has allowed people in the three corporations to buy essentials between 6 am and 5 pm on April 30. All grocery stores will be open during the period. The timings for other regions will remain intact, the government said. On May 1, the earlier restrictions — i.e from 6 am to 1 pm will come into force.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami held a meeting with Collectors through video conferencing. Though the COVID-19 spread has been contained in villages, town panchayats and municipalities, it has not been under control in corporations like Chennai, he said in the meeting.

Palaniswami asked the Collectors to check the inflow of people from other states in the borders and ensure proper medical check-up. He added the government would soon issue guidelines to allow certain industries to function in green zones.
