Pro-BJP dalit leader backs Hindi as third language in Tamil Nadu

Even as the ruling AIADMK party, which is in alliance with the BJP at the Centre, said that it would press the Centre to continue with the two-language policy, ally party Puthiya Tamilagam leader K Krishnasamy said Tamil Nadu should make use of this opportunity to learn Hindi.

Speaking to the reporters in Chennai, he said that for the past 50 years the youngsters in the state did not get an opportunity to learn Hindi as Tamil was a compulsory subject for students in the government schools. But now, without imposition, people have the opportunity to choose Hindi as a third language on their own interest. “So, Tamil Nadu people should make use of this opportunity and should learn Hindi for free in government schools,” he said.

He added that learning Hindi would not be a threat to Tamil as it is 10,000 years old. “If people in the Tamil Nadu choose Hindi as their third language, Hindi speaking states would take Tamil as their third language, by which Tamil would also develop,” he claimed.

Hinting at the DMK and its allies, Krishnasamy said that only a few parties are against Hindi and they are snatching the opportunity from people. “Hindi is already taught in CBSE schools and international schools in Tamil Nadu. So, now when an opportunity is created, why should the people deny it?” he asked.

He also asked the government to give an opportunity to people to learn Hindi for free to make Tamils proud across the country and to extend their skills in various sectors including education and economics.ven as the ruling AIADMK party, which is in alliance with the BJP at the Centre, said that it would press the Centre to continue with the two-language policy, ally party Puthiya Tamilagam leader K Krishnasamy said Tamil Nadu should make use of this opportunity to learn Hindi.
