NIA raids seven places in Coimbatore, links with ISIS suspected

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raids at seven places including Ukkadam, Kuniyamathur and Pothanur in Coimbatore, on Wednesday (June 12).

A joint NIA raid with teams from Kochi and Coimbatore swooped on the houses of Azharudhin, Sadam and Akram suspecting they had links with ISIS. The three named allegedly had links, through social media, with terrorists responsible for the Sri Lankan Easter suicide bombings.

Azharuddhin of Anbu Nagar, Sadam and Akram of Pothanur, Abu Bakar Siddiq of Kuniyamathur are currently being questioned. The documents seized from their houses are being perused even as their suspected connections with the suicide bombers are being investigated. No arrests have been made yet.

It is to be noted that in April the NIA team conducted raids at Kasargod and Palakkad in Kerala suspecting links with the international terror outfit.
