Youth attacks woman at Chetpet railway station, jumps infront of train

A 27-year-old man attempted to kill a 26-year-old woman over a tiff between them at Chetpet suburban railway station before jumping in front of a train in Chennai on Friday (June 14) night.

At around 7.50 pm, the accused, Surenderan and the victim, V Thenmozhi, were seen talking at the Chetpet railway station. All of a sudden, Surenderan allegedly stabbed her on the cheek and hands and attempted to jump in front of a train. The accused hit his head on the train that was pulling in, and was thrown on the platform.

The passengers on the train took him aboard and dropped him off at Egmore, where the railway police admitted him to a private hospital. He was then shifted to Rajiv Gandhi government hospital. Thenmozhi, who lost a lot of blood, was taken to Kilpauk Medical College hospital for treatment. The victim works at a private concern in the city. Both are from Erode.

Police officials rushed to the spot and recovered a knife. “The accused may have planned it beforehand. It does not look like a case of sudden provocation,” the police said.
According to a police source, both of them were believed to be in a romantic relationship.

“Thenmozhi’s parents allegedly started to look for a bridegroom. This caused the couple to fight frequently and during one such fight, Surenderan allegedly attempted to kill her,” the source said.

Egmore Railway Police have registered a case on various charges including 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code and further investigations are on. Police have alerted Thenmozhi’s parents in Erode.
