High court grants conditional bail to activist Mugilan in sexual harassment case

Social activist T Mugilan who was among those in the forefront of agitations against several government projects including the anti-Sterlite protest in 2018 was, on Wednesday (November 13), granted conditional bail in a sexual harassment case by the Madras high court.

The matter came up before the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court. Mugilan was ordered to sign the bail register once in every three days at the Karur CB-CID office.

The activist had moved the Madras high court seeking bail contending that the sexual harassment case registered against him in Karur was false.

A woman had alleged that he coaxed her into believing that he would marry her and had physical relationship but later reneged on his promise.

It is to be noted that he has been missing since February after addressing a press conference, in which he alleged that senior police officials were involved in the Tuticorin firing incident. He was later apprehended at Tirupati on July 6, 2019.
