6 killed, 4 injured as boulders hit bus following landslide in Uttarakhand


Six people were killed and four injured when a bus got hit by boulders following a landslide in Devprayag area of Tehri Garhwal district in Uttarakhand on Saturday (September 28), State Disaster Response Force officials said, according to media reports.

“The incident occurred in the afternoon at around 2:30 p.m. when heavy boulders fell due to a landslide on a mini-bus,” Hindustan Times (HT) quoted an SDRF official as saying.

“The SDRF and the local police soon reached the spot after receiving information about the incident from the locals. Five people died on the spot while one other person succumbed later during treatment after being rushed to the hospital,” he added, according to HT.

The SDRF official said that the four injured people had been shifted to AIIMS, Rishikesh after receiving primary treatment in a nearby hospital. “The identities of the victims are being ascertained,” he told HT.

Officials later found that all of them had been travelling to Srinagar town of Pauri Garhwal from Rishikesh.

The Dehradun meteorological centre for the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued an alert earlier on Saturday for heavy to very heavy rainfall in a minimum of eight districts.

Some of the districts that received an alert were Dehradun, Chamoli, Pauri Garhwal, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag, Tehri Garhwal, Nainital and Bageshwar.

The meteorological centre has predicted light to intense showers in various parts of the state over the next 24 hours.
