Sharma’s family members too asked him not to take the gruelling journey. But he could not hold himself back. He had left Etawah on foot and reached Rajgarh on March 28, taking lifts from motorists in the middle of the travel. Sharma had walked for nearly 20 hours, which gave him leg cramps.

For a day, he did not get anything to eat. Later, some social organisations provided him food, says Sharma, who has taken rest after the arduous journey. “I will join duty soon,” he says.

Appreciating Sharma’s effort, Rajgarh Superintendent of Police Pradeep Sharma has written a letter to the constable, lauding his commitment and dedication towards work during such challenging times. “I am going to write to the Director General of Police, requesting him to give the constable a letter of appreciation,” the SP added.
