Delhi reports more than 1,000 cases again; tally crosses 17,000

With the mounting number of coronavirus cases all over India, national capital, New Delhi on Friday (May 29) reported 1,106 fresh cases of novel coronavirus – an increase of more than 1,000 cases for the second consecutive day.


With the mounting number of coronavirus cases all over India, national capital, New Delhi on Friday (May 29) reported 1,106 fresh cases of novel coronavirus – an increase of more than 1,000 cases for the second consecutive day.

Health Minister Satyendar Jain said the COVID-19 tally in Delhi now stands at 17,386.

Jain said the total death count in Delhi due to COVID-19 has jumped to 398, out of which 82 deaths have been confirmed over the last 24 hours.

“Total COVID-19 positive cases in Delhi stands at 17,386, including 1,106 cases that were reported yesterday. 7,846 people have recovered so far. Till now, the death toll is 398,” the Delhi Health Minister told a press briefing.

“82 deaths were added to the toll yesterday, out of these 13 took place in the last 24 hours while 69 happened over the last 34 days but the information has been corroborated now,” Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said, reported TimesNow.

Earlier, on Thursday too, Delhi had witnessed a record single-day spike of 1,024 cases.

Considering the ever-increasing number of cases, the city health minister said they want restrictions to continue post-May 31 when Lockdown 4.0 ends.

“The Delhi government believes that places where large gatherings take place, like cinema halls, should remain closed. Schools and colleges should also remain closed,” Jain said on consultations held with Union Home Minister Amit Shah over lockdown.
