Overthrow Mamata govt, let BJP build a 'sonar Bangla': Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday (November 5) appealed to the people of West Bengal to give the BJP an opportunity to build “sonar Bangla” (a golden Bengal).

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday (November 5) appealed to the people of West Bengal to give the BJP an opportunity to build “sonar Bangla” (a golden Bengal).

“Since last night, I am in West Bengal and can sense the massive public anger against the Mamata Banerjee government. On the other side, I can sense a hope among the masses that a change can be ushered in the state only under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Shah told reporters after garlanding the statue of revolutionary Birsa Munda in Bankura.

“I appeal to the people to overthrow this government and give the BJP the opportunity to build sonar Bangla (a golden Bengal),” he said.

He hit out at the Mamata Banerjee government over the attacks on BJP workers and said he can sense the “death knell” of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government.

“From the kind of attack and atrocities that are being perpetrated on BJP workers, I can sense that the death knell of the Mamata Banerjee government has been sounded,” he said. “I am confident that we will form the next government in Bengal with a two-third majority.”

The home minister accused Mamata of not allowing the benefits of central schemes, including PM-Kisan and Ayushman Bharat, to reach the poor in the state.

“The Mamata Banerjee government is not allowing the benefits of central schemes to reach the poor. More than 80 central schemes for the poor, tribals and the backward communities are not being permitted by the state,” he claimed.

“Mamata didi is under a false impression that by not allowing the central schemes, she would be able to stop the BJP in the state. I want to tell her that if she allows these schemes then the poor people might even think about her,” he added.

Reacting to Shah’s remarks, Mamata said, “We will not tolerate the politics of threat. People should stay within their limits. People of Bengal will not accept outsiders.”

“A party is spreading the pandemic while common people are following Covid-19 health restrictions,” the West Bengal chief minister said, without naming any party.
